Title: Cockburn Sound Locations at Manning Lake c1895 [picture]

Notes: Detail from larger map available from the State Records Office of WA catalogue. Full title 'Hamilton Hill Locations (Manning Lake) by W. Phelps and C. Evans 1861 [scale: 8 chains to an inch]'

Summary: Original map was drawn in 1861 but additions such as Robb Jetty and a railway route show that it was amended until the mid-1890s at least. This detail shows the lots surrounding modern-day Manning Lake, mainly belonging to Charles Alexander Manning who arrived in Fremantle in 1854. The lot that includes the lake itself is still listed with J.W. Davey's name, though the Mannings certainly bought that lease to expand their landholdings into what would become the Davilak Estate.
