Victor Manning (second from left) was born at Davilak in 1883. He was sent to England to attend school, and upon completing his studies he joined an English cavalry regiment, the 12th Lancers, with which he served in India. He returned to Western Australia and took up farming, but when the First World War broke out he went back to England and rejoined his regiment. Subsequently he served with the Royal Munster Fusiliers, and later with the 5th Royal Berkshires in the 12th Division in France. He was decorated with the Military Cross. He died in 1935. |
